Second staircases guidance: Approved Document B: Fire Safety:On 29 March, the government updated its guidance calling for second staircases in all new tall residential buildings over 18 metres. Under the transitional arrangements, new Building Regulations applications can meet either the new or the previous guidance until 30 September 2026.
DLUHC Q&A on changes to building control process for HRBs:DLUHC has published an additionalQ&A documentto supplement the previously published Building Circular (published in October 2023 and updated in February 2024) on changes to the building control process for higher-risk buildings (HRBs) and wider changes to procedural building regulations applying to buildings in England.
Grenfell Tower final report delayed: The team leading the Grenfell Tower Inquiry has announced a further delay in the publication of the phase two report. In a recent update released on 11 April, the inquiry team confirmed that the report will not meet its initially scheduled release date of 14 June, coinciding with the forthcoming anniversary of the fire.

Principal Contractors Competency Certification Scheme:CIOB is launching a principal contractor register to allow professionals to demonstrate they meet the competence requirements set out in the Building Safety Act and amended building regulations. The Principal Contractor Competency Certification Scheme (PCCCS) is suitable for individuals performing or appointed to the role of the Principal Contractor.
